Atka

On April 25th, Horizon Wings welcomed its newest educational ambassador Atka. Atka is a young male Bald eagle who came to us from Washington State, where he was found in August of 2010 with an injury to his shoulder, leaving him unreleasable.

Atka is settling into his new home very well and will be in training until we feel he is ready to make his first public appearance. We are extremely excited about our new addition, as it will greatly enhance our educational programs in the future.

You can read more about Atka on our Program Birds page, with some additional images of his move to our facilities below.

Construction of Atka's Aviary

We would like to thank Vaughn and Sheila Numrych for their very generous donation in memory of Vaughn’s father, George Numrych. Their gift to Horizon Wings funded the building of Atka’s aviary.

Horizon Wings would also like to thank everyone who made the construction of Atka’s aviary possible. Without their generosity and hard work, we would not have been able to complete this newest addition to Horizon Wings in time for Atka’s arrival. Thanks again to all of our wonderful volunteers.
